We recently caught up with Youth Advisory Board member Frankie, who shared some of her thoughts around the importance of relationships education, learning to own your actions and prioritise self care.

“I’ve been a member of the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) at LMK for five months now. While I joined to give back and make a positive impact, I’ve also gained so much in return. My experience has been invaluable in helping me understand and navigate my own relationship struggles.

At one point, I found myself dealing with low self-esteem and struggling with work-life balance. Maintaining friendships became difficult, I wasn’t putting in the effort, withdrawing from those around me, and getting caught up in my own issues. Over time, I realised that my negativity wasn’t just affecting me; it was impacting my friends too.

Taking a step back and reflecting on what I’d learned at LMK, I recognised that to maintain strong relationships, I first needed to take care of myself. When you feel balanced and confident in yourself, it becomes much easier to nurture the connections that matter.

Although it’s not always easy, the key to bouncing back from a tough time is to own your actions, apologise when needed, and prioritise self-care. You’re never alone, and even if some relationships can’t be repaired, keeping a positive mindset will help you build new, meaningful connections while staying true to yourself.
