This term, LMK is launching two new workshops to help young people better understand the forces shaping their relationships today:
Both workshops were co-created with our Youth Advisory Board, ensuring they reflect the realities, language and experiences of young people, and respond directly to the challenges they are navigating in everyday life.
These advanced workshops are for young people who have already completed our flagship ’10 Signs workshop’. Participants take the concepts learned in the initial 10 Signs session and apply them to more complex issues faced today.
Young people are already navigating power dynamics – in friendships, romantic relationships, and online – while also forming relationships in an increasingly digital world. However, many lack the language or frameworks to fully understand what’s happening. These workshops seek to address this by exploring the themes through the lens of 10 signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Relationships with AI and the Digital World
This workshop explores how AI and digital technologies are increasingly shaping the way young people form, understand, and experience relationships in everyday life.
Through discussion-led activities and real-life scenarios, young people are supported to explore:
- How AI tools and digital platforms can influence communication and connection
- The benefits, risks, and emotional impacts of interacting with AI and online systems
- How identity, trust, and boundaries can be affected in digital relationships
- Ways to recognise healthy, unhealthy, and manipulative dynamics in online and AI-driven interactions
The workshop encourages critical thinking – giving students the tools to reflect on their own experiences and those of others.
Power & Gender in Relationships
This workshop focuses on how power shows up in everyday interactions, and how gender expectations can affect relationship behaviour in ways that often go unspoken.
Through discussion-led activities and real-life scenarios, young people are supported to explore:
- How power operates in different types of relationships
- The influence of gender norms and stereotypes on behaviour and expectations
- How imbalances of power can affect communication, consent and decision-making
- Practical ways to recognise and challenge unhealthy dynamics
The workshop encourages critical thinking – giving young people the tools to reflect on their own experiences and those of others.
Why these new workshops matters now:
As schools continue to embed updated Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) requirements, there is an increased emphasis on making lessons more relevant to young people’s lives.
Conversations around power, gender and digital influence can be particularly difficult to navigate – for both students and staff – yet they underpin many of the issues schools are working hard to address, from unhealthy relationships to harmful online behaviours.
By co-creating these workshops with our Youth Advisory Board, we’ve been able to ensure the content is grounded in lived experience, and speaks directly to the realities young people face today.
These workshops are designed to support those conversations in a way that is accessible, nuanced and relevant.
Delivery in your school:
The new workshops can be delivered as standalone sessions or integrated into a wider programme of relationship education once all students have participated in LMK’s 10 Signs workshop – the foundation of our programme.
Like all LMK workshops, they are:
- Aligned with RSHE guidance
- Adaptable to different age groups and settings
- Facilitated by trained educators experienced in handling sensitive topics
By creating a structured environment for open discussion, the sessions help schools move into learning about these topics in greater depth, supporting students to build the understanding and confidence needed to navigate relationships in a safe and respectful way.
