SAFEGUARDING AT LMK

#letmeknow

Our commitment

At LMK, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating safe, supportive environments where young people can explore relationships, share their perspectives, and access support when they need it.

What safeguarding means to us

Safeguarding is about protecting children, young people, and adults at risk from harm, maltreatment, exploitation, and promoting their welfare at all times. In the context of LMK, this includes:

  • Creating safe spaces for open and honest discussion, within the confinements of the limitations to confidentiality.
  • Responding appropriately to disclosures or concerns in collaboration with host organisations we are commissioned by
  • Supporting young people to seek help for themselves or others
  • Working within clear professional boundaries
  • Recognising the impact of trauma and lived experience

Our approach

Our workshops are designed to explore real-life relationship experiences. This means sensitive topics may arise. We ensure that:

  • All sessions are delivered by trained, experienced facilitators
  • A trauma-informed approach is embedded throughout our work
  • Young people are never pressured to share personal experiences
  • Clear boundaries and expectations are set at the start of every session
  • Support pathways are always signposted.

Safeguarding responsibilities

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility at LMK. We ensure that:

  • All staff and our freelance Youth Leaders receive safeguarding training
  • All staff and our freelance Youth Leaders are DBS checked in line with UK legislation
  • The host organisations safeguarding procedures are clearly understood before delivery
  • An LMK Designated Safeguarding Lead/Officer (DSL/O) is in place
  • Concerns are recorded and responded to appropriately.

Responding to concerns

If a safeguarding concern arises during or after an LMK workshop:

  • Youth Leaders follow LMK safeguarding procedures immediately
  • Concerns are reported to the host organisation and LMK Designated Safeguarding Officer/ Lead at the end of the workshop
  • Appropriate external agencies (e.g. social care or police) may be contacted
  • We always prioritise the safety and wellbeing of the young person.

Working in partnership with Education and Community organisations

LMK works closely with schools, colleges, and community organisations. We:

  • Align with each organisation’s safeguarding policies
  • Ensure a member of staff from the host organisation is present during delivery
  • Share concerns in line with agreed safeguarding procedures
  • Work collaboratively to support young people effectively.

Safer recruitment and training

We are committed to ensuring that those who work with us are safe and suitable to do so.

This includes:

  • Safer recruitment processes
  • Enhanced DBS checks
  • Ongoing safeguarding training and supervision
  • Clear codes of conduct for all Core Team Members and LMK freelance Youth Leaders.

Policies and procedures

Our safeguarding policy and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated in line with UK legislation and best practice.
